With my first pregnancy, I took a weekly prenatal yoga class at Orem Community Hospital. It was a great way to get some exercise and I loved it. With my second, I took classes at 3B Yoga in the Riverwoods in Provo. It was a fantastic class. I wish I was more regular with it, but when I could make it-it was worth it. Plus they give you a few minutes at the end where you can just lay there and soak all those yummy pregnancy feelings in!
Yoga during pregnancy gave me 60-75 minutes of time just to connect with myself, my body, and my baby. It was lovely. Here are a few benefits of prenatal yoga.
- Time to connect with your body and your baby
- Showing up for yourself (which is hard to do if you have other kids!)
- Gaining strength and stamina
- Relieves tension and reduces stress in your body. Great for your pelvis and hips!
- Its' a great chance to get together with other expecting moms
- It can help with balance
- Preparation for labor and help with breathing
- Better sleep!
If you already consider yourself a yogini, then moving into prenatal classes will be a natural step for you. What a great way to continue your art through this phase in your life. You'll be so grateful you did!
I encourage you to look into prenatal yoga classes in your area. If you're in Utah County check out 3B Yoga. They offer a prenatal yoga class, a gentle yoga class, and a kids yoga class. Along with many other classes to choose from.
I have also heard great things about Bodhi Yoga in Provo. They offer a three-class workshop for expecting mothers.
The Yoga Underground is also in Provo. While I don't believe they offer a specific prenatal class , they do cater towards those present in the class that day!
Grab some friends and get your yoga on!
