Q: Why hire a doula?
A: A doula is an advocate for you. We do not represent a provider or a hospital, we represent only you! We provide emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decisions.

Q: What are the 'effects' of a doula?
A: Here are some of the statistical changes in a birth that a doula makes.

  • 50% reduction in the cesarean rate
  • 25% shorter labor
  • 60% reduction in epidural requests
  • 40% reduction in oxytocin use
  • 30% reduction in analgesia use
  • 40% reduction in forceps delivery

Q: Will a doula replace the father or other family members?
A: Not at all! A doula can assist getting your birth team more involved and can help them help you! Depending on the desires of you and your birth partner we can take a secondary role in your labor and birth by showing your team what to do or if you prefer we can take a primary role supporting you.

Q:  Are Doulas only for natural births?
A: No. Many couples plan on using an epidural or are planned inductions and want a doula present. A doula can assist you in making the best decisions during your labor in case any other interventions become necessary. A doula also increases your satisfaction of your birth where you will love your birth story!

Q: Is a Doula a midwife?
A: No. A doula does not catch the baby or provide any clinical care.

Q: Do you have a backup?
A: Yes! A great benefit of working with Doulas of Utah Valley is we are part of a doula collective with built in back up doulas.

Q: Does a Doula make decisions for me?
A: No. A doula can help you make informed, educated decisions. We can provide an unbiased point of view, explain the benefits and risks, and give you the information you need to make the best decision for your family.

Q: What areas do you serve?
A: We serve Utah Valley (Provo, Orem, Springville to Payson, Lindon to Lehi) and Salt Lake Valley areas. We're also willing to serve the Heber and Midway area as well.
